Thanks, Hadley! I'd be really interested to know more about your workflow and AI ergonomics. I see posts like https://wesmckinney.com/blog/agentic-engineering-aug-2026/ from Wes McKinney but I don't then have a clear sense or guide of how to implement them, and if that kind of workflow makes sense for my own data science workflows. I'm not managing as many projects as Wes, but I do context switch a lot - getting AI to work on one thing, checking it, then while it is running, starting up another workflow on something else. It all feels a bit inefficient, and so I wonder about these ergonomic workflows. Like, how {usethis} transformed how I set up packages/projects, and how things like {tflow} https://github.com/MilesMcBain/tflow and https://github.com/MilesMcBain/fnmate help me develop targets pipelines and iterate on functional programming.
Really appreciate your willingness to share how you're grappling with these transitions -- these are hard and confusing times, and the discussions need to be had! Grateful to have you as a voice in the arena
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, helpful for reality check. I’d love to watch how AI is adjusting ggplot artistry/craftsmanship. My intuition is that ggplot should be supercharged, not made obsolete, but im also biased. In clickbait lingo: is ggplot dead?
really enjoyed posit:conf this year (first time) and can't wait to see what's next from you and the team at Posit. keep up the great work!

Good question! Yeah I suspect it's easy for people to make more complex ggplot2 plots, even if they don't actually know they're using ggplot2.
Thanks for the incredible blog Hadley, great renaming and great reflections on gen-AI too.
Please, please, write a post about how to incorporate skills into ellmer workflows! That would be incredible!!
